Un funeral de muerte

(CASTELLANO) Hay comedias que no necesitan grandes alardes para funcionar, y Un funeral de muerte es una de ellas. Con una premisa sencilla —un funeral familiar donde todo se desmadra—, Frank Oz consigue una película desenfadada, llena de enredos, equívocos y humor negrísimo, de ese que a veces se echa en falta. El guion avanza sin dar respiro, con escenas cada vez más locas pero bien medidas, y aunque roza el absurdo en varias ocasiones, sabe reírse de sí misma con elegancia. El reparto está espléndido. Se nota que todos están pasándolo bien y eso se contagia. Cada personaje aporta lo suyo sin necesidad de ser una caricatura. Hay espacio para los gags físicos, el humor verbal y hasta momentos de pura mala leche, sin que la película pierda ritmo ni encanto. Además, la mezcla entre el estilo británico clásico y cierto desparpajo más universal le da un tono muy particular que funciona sorprendentemente bien. Quizá no sea una obra maestra, pero Un funeral de muerte tiene chispa, buen ritmo y suficientes golpes de ingenio como para garantizar un rato divertido. Y que se haya prestado a varios remakes dice mucho: cuando algo funciona tan bien, es normal que muchos quieran copiarlo. Aquí, lo original sigue siendo lo mejor. With a simple premise —a family funeral where everything goes off the rails— Frank Oz delivers a lighthearted film full of mix-ups, misunderstandings, and pitch-black humor, the kind that’s often missing these days. The script moves quickly without pause, with increasingly absurd scenes that still feel well-timed, and though it skirts the edge of the ridiculous at times, it knows how to laugh at itself with class. The cast is terrific. You can tell they’re all having fun, and that enjoyment is contagious. Each character brings something to the table without turning into a caricature. There’s room for physical gags, witty dialogue, and even a few moments of dark humor, all without losing pace or charm. Plus, the blend of classic British style with a more universal cheekiness gives it a unique tone that works surprisingly well. It might not be a masterpiece, but Death at a Funeral has spark, rhythm, and enough clever touches to guarantee a good time. And the fact that it’s inspired several remakes says a lot —when something works this well, it's only natural others want to copy it. Here, the original still stands above the rest.
